O2 Germany's announcement of its intent to also offer mobile services follows on from an interesting presentation I saw at the ISP Innovations mini-conference in June. O2 Germany look like they are trying to do the simple things well.
The thing that impressed me was that they were able to offer a service that was the virtual equivalent of BT Fusion, without the technical complexity. All they do is rate calls made from the three transmitters closest to a customer's home at a "home zone" price, achieving the same effect as the much more complicated BT service.
The other thing I liked was the packaging, pricing and distribution of music download services though their music portal. They seem to be delivering all the benefits of convergence to their customers, without taking the technical risk up front. Sounds sensible to me...
